Purpose

Deliver engaging, accessible teaching and help children rebuild confidence in learning.

Reporting line

Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher

Working arrangements

Teaching timetable and term-time or year-round contract basis confirmed before appointment.

England; specific location and weekly hours confirmed before appointment. Maximum eight-hour shifts include one hour of paid uninterrupted break with competent cover.

Key responsibilities

• Assess starting points and plan sequenced individual learning.
• Adapt lessons for SEND, language, disrupted schooling and emotional needs.
• Set realistic goals and provide feedback children can use.
• Maintain attendance, assessment and progress records.
• Use safe, respectful behaviour-support approaches.
• Coordinate with school, care and clinical colleagues on agreed support.
• Promote literacy, numeracy, digital safety and wider interests.
• Report safeguarding concerns promptly and maintain appropriate relationships.

Experience

Relevant teaching experience, including adapting learning to differing needs; no numerical minimum is specified.

Qualifications and registration

Relevant degree, recognised teacher training and QTS required by Astha as an employer standard. Subject expertise appropriate to the teaching allocation.

Essential capabilities

• Strong teaching, assessment and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt learning and build respectful relationships.
• Understanding of safeguarding and education confidentiality.
• Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive practice.

Desirable experience

Experience with looked-after children and specialist or alternative education.
